Genre Research: It 2

  • ·         Common CAMS, CLAMPS, Sound, and Editing seen in the movie?
  •      To begin with, common camera angles and movement in IT CHAPTER 2 were tracking shot, two shot, and low angle. Low angles are the most common. I think this to make the people and environment seem creepier. It gives that sense of horror. Something very common in the movie is costume. First off, Pennywise is wearing a costume. Props such as the red balloons. The most important mis-scene seen in this movie is lighting. The dark shadow lighting is what makes this movie horror. The suspense of not knowing what is in that darkness. The sound in particular we caught was the voiceovers. Voiceovers create intensity which build the genre horror. Common editing used in this movie is shot-reverse-shot.
  • ·       What elements (conventions) of the genre did the movie have and that you like?
  •      Elements of the genre that we noticed this movie had were closeups, low angles, the color scheme, tracking shots, and location. We liked the closeups because it shows more clearly what is happening, which is part of the horrifying part. Low angle create a sense of empowerment and having authority. This could create a sense of suspense as to what might happen. Further due, a low angle tracking shot gives in as to what might happen. It creates intense as the horror character is walking. We very much liked the color scheme because it all came together accordingly in the movie. The beginning credits were golden yellow, like the clowns eyes. It also kept the red color scheme all along. Location was a element we liked because it added to the suspense. Most horror movies happen at carnivals with clowns. It made the movie more predictable as a genre, horror movie is.
  • ·       What elements of the genre did the movie have that do not appeal to you?
  •      3 elements that did not appeal to us were the harsh violence, language, and the animated antagonist. The harsh violence does not appeal to us because it would be hard to recreate without hurting each other or other things that come along with making it look realistic. It was also very hard to watch. It doesn’t not appeal to the genre horror to us. The language was not appealing because it was strong. It would not be correct to use that kind of dialogue in our short film. Lastly, we did not like the animated antagonist, because it wasn’t really. We also agreed that there is more suspense when you do not see the horror character.
