Production blog: Getting our sound

 Our group decided on using the song “coaster” by Khalid for our short film. The background music will be describing the feeling the main character is feeling. And lowering the music when actors speak or express feelings. So in order to not have this copyrighted we decided to email Khalid. Not only did we email his team, but I also messaged him on instagram. I wrote “Hey Khalid I am a high school student. I was wondering if I could have permission to use your song “Coaster” for a 5 minute short film that I am creating with my classmates/friends for our AICE Media Studies class. I would really appreciate it. It’s going to be about the 5 stages of heartbreak and pain. Your song matches the vibe perfectly. Thank you for your time.” to let him know what my group and I were going to use his song for. However, he did not answer so we are just going to remix it or find royalty free music. This song however, was perfect to describe the meaning through the short film. Just in case, all of the group members emailed him and messaged him through social media. Also, we also did research through the internet. We got some ideas using the song “watch” by Billie Eillish. This also describes the feelings of loneliness felt during a breakup. The drainage of having to put your feelings before your past lover. But it was a little to sad for out taste. So we settled on coaster.

  Research  B log       My   group is doing a Selena Gomez  & The Scene  pop song, titled “Who  S ays .”  This type of song usually portrays elated emotions  as well as  lifting people up  throughout music videos.     CLAMPS   People  in videos like these  usually wear c asual clothes ,  accessories, sunglasses , layering, and shorts.  The hairstyle is usually let down.  Men usually wear hats.     Their  makeup is soft. Including mascara, lip gloss , eyeliner , and  neutral eye shadow.   The lighting is usually vibrant or soft. It may look vintage, filtered,  grainy , and a yellow  tint .   The pe ople in videos  usually act happy and let loose. Many people are also dancing.   The props used  in  alike pop videos are  hairbrushes,  lipstick s , balloons ,  microphones,   phone s , mirror s , shoes /heels  being held, and  camera s .   The setting is usually  out doors , stores, restaurants,  etc.  There is a variety of settings in one video. For example, a setting could be a party.

The heat.

 On Tuesday, the 28 I started filming. So first I had to change to a more causal clothing attire. Even though I would only be showing my legs in these scenes. I changed into sweatpants to film my first two scenes. I started off by filming the second scene first. The second scene is the 180 view of the Nike Air-forces. I decide to film this shot in the sun because it gave my shoes great lighting. Additionally, my shoes have a holographic piece and it changes colors with the lighting. I kept retaking my shot because it kept coming out shaky and it had to be smooth. Also, due to the sun it caused there to be a shadow. It was very difficult not to get my shadow while I was shooting. In my opinion, if it has the shadow it may look unprofessional. After, 5 takes I got the perfect one. Script Scene 1 [Soundtrack starts] Angie: That’s when I told him that he needs to be careful with what comes out of his mouth! Lili: Did he insult you? Angie: Not really, but more of an annoying comment.  Aleiah: He should mind his own business for once in a while.
