Production Blog: Sound Cutting

On Thursday, the 18th my group and I started editing the sound to our music video. My group decided to edit the music. This was decided because I wanted to add every part of the song to the one minute and fifteen second video. To do this our group member Lili had to cut almost a four minute long song to have every part needed for our storyboard. My group first started to think about what was needed to create a storyline to our video. This song had a repeated chorus. So Lili cut the repeated chorus. The song "who says" additionally has a part in the song where it was just ambient sound. Due to this, Lili cut out this noise. Together, my group and I decided that a fade in the beginning was important. Additionally decided, a fade out at the end of song was also best. I thought that adding the fade-in and out would create a monumental moment. It creates a scene of beginning and finish to the song. A challenge that was faced was making the music the correct time. A minute and fifteen seconds. I kept cutting the music. However, every time our group member Lili moved it to the correct spot it would just keep getting longer. By the end, Lili had to cut some of the crucial parts. The parts my group had decided were important. This was all because it did not make the correct duration. However, at the end of my class that lasted an hour and 30 minutes my group and I finished cutting the sound. Now, it was time to film. Together that day we also decided to film the music video during thanksgiving break.
